Project Description

A large steel truss cantilevers from a masonry wing to support a glass box housing the kitchen, meals, family room and balcony. Automated Vental louvers form an operable skin to control the sun and provide privacy to an otherwise transparent viewing platform.

The language of the roof and the ceiling inform the hierarchy of function within the living wing. The mono-pitched ceiling rakes from the living space up to the open, northern balcony and meals room. The roof wraps and rakes to slowly reduce the exposure of the glass facade to actively enclose the living room while expanding to fully expose the north.

The structural steel, glass and colorbond form a contemporary sculptural statement against the rural backdrop and the grey cement rendered wall palette was chosen as a contextual contrast against the natural red earth and green landscape.
