Chapel for Polish Catholic Centre Maylands

church, completed 1984

Project Description

This Chapel was commissioned by the Perth Catholic Polish Community.

The language of the building symbolises the catholic faith in its aesthetic. The three concrete columns linked by the concrete beam symbolises the three persons in one god (The Trinity). None of the columns can be removed without affecting the entire structure.

The face bricks symbolise the populous or congregation, numerous bricks can be removed without any adverse damage.

The contemporary design of the chapel at first challenged the committee’s perceptions of the ‘traditional chapel’ aesthetic.
